Why choose mineral cables

Date:2022/10/26

Mineral cables are also known as fireproof cables or copper core copper sheath inorganic insulated cables. The basic structure is copper conductors with high conductivity, high temperature, non-combustible inorganic insulating materials, and brass cover plates. Due to different inorganic insulating materials, different brass sleeves, and different installation directions, mineral cables are divided into 4 main types of fire-resistant cables: flexible mineral-insulated fire-resistant cables, rigid mineral-insulated fire-resistant cables, thermal-insulated mineral-insulated fire-resistant cables and isolated mineral-fired cables Insulated fireproof cable.

Why choose mineral cables? Because of the following advantages:

1. High temperature operation, large current carrying capacity

The normal use temperature of the mineral cable can reach 250C, and in special cases, the cable can keep working for a short time at a temperature close to the melting point of the copper cover. It is very suitable for the layout of high temperature places such as metallurgy, boilers, glass kilns, blast furnaces, etc.

2. Waterproof, explosion-proof, high mechanical strength

The insulation layer of the mineral cable is processed by a high-density compression process and then protected by a seamless copper protective layer. There are three requirements for fire resistance, spray coating and mechanical shock in the product standard. Can withstand great impact and mechanical damage. Therefore, it can not only prevent the intrusion of water, moisture, oil and some chemical substances, but also is suitable for the connection of various explosion-proof equipment and equipment in places where there is a danger of explosion.

3. Overload protection

When the circuit is overloaded, plastic cables can cause insulation heating or breakdown due to overcurrent or overvoltage. For mineral cables, unless the heat reaches the melting point temperature of copper, the cable will not be damaged. Even if there is an instant breakdown, the high temperature of magnesium oxide at the breakdown point will not form carbides. After the overload is removed, the cable performance remains unchanged and can continue to be used normally.

4. Longer use time, safer and more reliable

The structure of the mineral cable is composed of a copper core and an insulating sleeve, which is a sealed whole, so it is difficult for the oxygen in the outside air to cause aging. This makes the total life of the cable longer, plus the own characteristics of the copper sheath, the grounding of the cable is better, so as to effectively achieve lightning protection grounding measures to ensure the circuit

Due to the many characteristics of mineral cables, they have been adopted by many domestic electrical design codes or standards in recent years, and are also used in many engineering projects in different industries. It is expected that the use of mineral insulated cables in my country will increase significantly in the next 10 years.
